With an arsenal of skills and talents, we will rely on you to supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in custom-machining metallic and non-metallic workpieces. You will produce, maintain, or repair parts for customer requirements, machines, molds, and equipment. In addition, you will apply your keen knowledge of machine shop procedures, programming knowledge, a variety of machine-tool setup and operating techniques, metal and plastic properties, and custom-machining methods. You may also supervise workers in related processes, such as forming, welding, testing, or assembling.


Essential Job Functions:  (By Priority Grouping)

Group I:

The ideal candidate will study schedules, schedule jobs, detail job process plans for each job (both man and machine) to satisfy customer delivery requirements by performing the following management duties:

  • General running of a CNC department
  • Lead role in problem solving manufacturing issues for set up personnel and machine operators
  • Oversee department product quality and visual appearance of manufactured parts
  • Stage jobs for production by confirming that programs, inspection sheets, materials, cutting tools and fixturings
  • Execute schedules and confirm that appropriate skill level personnel are available to set up and run each job
  • Confer with Supervisor to coordinate activities of individual department and workflow from other departments
  • Program jobs for Swiss, Multi Axis Mill turn and/or 4 and 5 Axis machines, including 3D surfacing
  • Confirm that Set Up/Machine Operators are setting up and running jobs within estimated times printed on routers in job folders
  • Confirm personnel are satisfying client quality responsibilities and post production job folder requirements
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, lights out performance, equipment performance and utilization and quality of product; suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department
  • Set up complex machinery for Swiss and multi axis mill turns, and/or 4 & 5 Axis mills
  • Assist in process planning and fixture design as needed

Group II:

  • Train apprentices and new workers
  • Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals
  • Assure proper maintenance of equipment and preventative maintenance schedules by employees
  • Internally diagnoses equipment problems
  • Oversee and/or maintain endmill/cutter stock inventory items
  • Manage workforce and enforce company policy
  • Recommend personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures


Group III:

  • Estimate requisition and inspect incoming materials


Job Qualification Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience or apprenticeship
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in shop floor management


Physical Demands: 

The employee is required to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead and bend to the floor, exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.


Licenses Required:



Visual Acuity: 

Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts.


Hearing Ability: 

Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.


Working Conditions: 

The employee is subject to high noise levels from operating machines, physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts, breathing fumes, dust and mist, skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid. The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
