Shift Supervisor

About the Job

PACKAGING DYNAMICS is a leader in supplying paper based flexible packaging and value-added solutions to the Food packaging industry.  We are currently seeking an off-Shift Supervisor to join our Ft. Madison Manufacturing Team.
This position is located in a manufacturing facility and supports the operations team from all aspects

The 3rd shift supervisor is responsible for performing all functions to ensure the production schedule is completed in a safe and timely manner. 

   

·         Safety

o       Lead by example, follow all safety rules/policies (SWI’s) and make sure all employees are doing the same

o       Ensure proper use of PPE in plant

o       Key member of the plant safety committee team

o       Complete safety training paperwork, incident reporting accurately and timely

o       Maintain housekeeping to food grade standards

o       Complete daily safety walkthrough sheet

·         Quality

o       Follow disciplined approach in manufacturing processes; utilize standard work to ensure product meets all customer expectations

o       Understand basic problem solving processes, driving to root cause and corrective actions

o       Must comprehend cause and effect relationships

o       Responsible for all shift paperwork, must be complete, timely and accurate (i.e. absentee slips, quality holds, maintenance requests, etc.)

o       Check and monitor quality on all machines, review QA samples from your shift, report any problems immediately, sign-off on all press job start-up samples

o       Manage waste to meet plant level and machine requirements; understand the causes of waste, and issues causing excessive waste

·         Delivery

o       Manage the shift; ensure schedule is met daily, never losing sight of the work requirements the following week

o       Take responsibility for opening or shutting down the shift as required

o       Identify problems during the shift and find solutions to meet the needs within the constraints of our company policies

o       Coach employees to the “right” choices, and encourage them to a team mentality

o       Document positive and negative performance impacts

o       Identify employees weaknesses & strengths, design training that assists the employee meet the needs of their position

·         Cost

o       Be a support person on the production floor understanding the issues, and leading the team to achieve!

o       Routinely be in each department understanding why the machines are achieving the results; initial the cell KPI boards every hour as to whether they are hitting or missing goals

o       Lead/facilitate problem solving geared towards the 80/20 of the issues in the plant

o       Create and nurture a team environment filled with opportunities to learn and grow

o       Actively support the efforts to meet setup, waste, productivity goals

 

·         People

o       Treat people with dignity and respect, and ensure clear concise and constructive communication is maintained

o       Performance evaluations will be completed on time, and routinely supporting the feedback needs and requirements for valued employees

o       Complete supervisor new hire checklist with all new employees

o       Maintain training and cross-training plans and necessary documentation

·         Other duties as assigned

Education/Training/Experience:

 

·         High school diploma or equivalent; minimum 5-7 years supervisory related experience or have demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above mentioned tasks

·         Previous manufacturing experience of 5-10 years or more
